Bayintnaung pulses market to release pulses prices on 22 April

Bayintnaung pulses market will announce the prices on 22 April. The prices of black grams and pigeon peas rebounded on 12 April, showing a one-week increase of K192,000 per tonne of pigeon peas and K124,000 per tonne of black grams.
The pigeon pea price was K4.147 million per tonne on 12 April, which is close to a record high of K4.197 million per tonne on 5 February 2024. The green gram price remained unchanged then.
A total of 90 containers (2,160 tonnes) of black grams (Fair Average Quality) were transacted on 9 April. The FOB price also increased to $1,000-1,020 per tonne of black grams (FAQ), $1,090-1,110 per tonne of black grams (SQ) and $1,260-1,280 per tonne of pigeon peas on 11-12 April. They were $860-880 per tonne of black grams (SQ) and $950-970 per tonne of pigeon peas last year.
The green gram prices were stable at $660-690 per tonne for those from central Myanmar regions and $780-820 for the Shwewah variety in the first two weeks of April.
The pre-Thingyan pulse prices stood at K2.07 million per tonne of black grams and K2.4 million per tonne of pigeon peas in 2023. This year, the market figures indicated an increase of K1.2 million for black grams and K1.7 million for pigeon peas compared with those of the corresponding period last year.
Kyat depreciation against the US dollar drove the FOB prices this year. — TWA/KK
