The reconstruction of the Advanced Mingala Market was completed by 46 per cent, according to the Yangon City Development Committee.
Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Bo Htay conducted an inspection to provide requirements to complete the construction with set standards during the work period, to coordinate the placement of shops, according to U Htay Win, a shop owner at the market.
The new market is built 223 feet above the ground, with two undergrounds and 15 storeys, and is an RC concrete building, which will include banks, City Mart, shops, offices, and car parking for 700 vehicles.
Although it was scheduled to complete the construction by July 2021, it was suspended due to COVID-19. It is now under construction to be completed by April 2023, under the collaboration of Sann Myat Tun Company with the Department of Markets and Brokerages at the corner of the Banyar Dala Road and the Setyon Road.
The first-time fire happened on the evening of 24 May 2010 at around 8 pm, for about 20 hours. The market was planned to rebuild a new one in 2019 after the second time fire happened in January 2016. Following the completion of the construction of the new market, the original 4,500 shops will be relocated as before. The construction project has been implemented with K68 billion since the end of 2018. — TWA/GNLM
