Authorities seize illegal timbers and raw jade

Under the supervision of the Anti-illegal Trade Steering Committee, action is being taken against illegal trades under the law. On 11 April, 40,924 kilogrammes of raw jade (estimated value of K240,514,480) from three vehicles parked near the Kampaiti Trading Post and the Myanmar-China Friendship Tunnel in Kachin State were seized under the Myanmar Gems Law.
On 10 and 15 April, inspection teams led by the Kachin State Department of Forestry seized 7.034 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated at K574,500) under the Forest Law.
On 12, 13, and 14 April, inspection teams led by the Rakhine State Department of Forestry conducted inspections and seized 12.3843 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K947,254) under the Forest Law.
In addition, on 14 April, 1.2203 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K85,421) were seized under the Forest Law in Paung Township, Thaton District, Mon State. Therefore, 13 arrests (estimated value of K242,121,655) were made between 10 and 15 April, the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee stated. — MNA
