Botahtaung Pagoda to host Matho Thingan weaving competition

A weaving competition of the golden lotus Matho Thingan is planned to be held on 26 and 27 November (Tazaungmone Full Moon Day) at the Botahtaung Kyaikdeap Pagoda, Botahtaung Township, according to U Thein Su, a member of the board of trustees of the pagoda.
Groups containing two people who are skilful female weavers, aged between 18 and 50, are eligible to compete in the 39th Matho Thingan weaving competition and are required to register not later than 16 November.
“This weaving competition is held annually. Each year, about 20 weaving groups usually participate in the competition. The first prize is K15 million, K10 million for the second prize and the third prize is K800,000. The consolation prize of K400,000 and medals will be also awarded,” U Thein Su said. — ASH/TH
