Yangon’s Chinese Culture Centre hosts Chinese Lunar New Year opening ceremony

The Chinese Culture Centre reported that the opening ceremony of the Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival took place at the Chinese Culture Centre in Ahlon Township, Yangon Region, on 4 February.
The Chinese Embassy to Myanmar and the Chinese Culture Centre organized the event. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Chen Hai, inaugurated it. Chinese citizens residing in Myanmar and those of Chinese descent born in Myanmar also attended the festival.
During the event, attendees were treated to a video introduction to the joyous Chinese New Year Festival and performances of the dragon dance, lion dance, and traditional Myanmar dances.
Visitors had the opportunity to view a photo exhibition on the “Flavour of Chinese New Year Festival”, watch short video clips titled “Spring is Coming”, and participate in hands-on experiences of Chinese intangible cultural heritage such as tie-dyeing and paper-cutting.
Additionally, visitors could enjoy the lantern enigma and participate in Chinese traditional sports such as badminton and archery. Prize-giving ceremonies were also part of the programme. Ancient Chinese traditional costumes were on display, and photo opportunities were available. Dumplings and other traditional Chinese foods were served at the event. — ASH/TMT
