The Union National Races Village (Yangon), located on the bank of Bago River, in Thakayta Township is bustling with daily tourist arrivals. Upon completion, the jetty in the village will be attractive to the number of tourists due to the opening of the waterway.
A tender is being called for the construction of the jetty on the Bago River bank near the MV-705 showroom, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year. With the completion of the jetty, not only the Star City water bus but also international cruises can dock at the village.
“On completion of the jetty, foreign tourism transportation will be expanded by connecting with the hotels and tourists. In addition, plans are underway for the Star City river cruise and foreign cruise vessels to dock at the jetty,” said Director of the village U Myo Win.
During the rainy season, the village admits between 400 and 500 tourists per day on weekdays. About 2,000 tourists pay visits there on each rainy weekend, and ethnic people entertain them with singing, dance and performances every day. It is also learned that one of the programmes to serve foreign tourists, upon the completion of the jetty, is that they will be able to cook and eat traditional ethnic foods by oneself.
The jetty will be 12 feet wide, with a 186 feet long bridge, and the jetty is expected to attract more domestic/foreign tourists.—Nyein Thu (MNA)/GNLM
