Cooperative Department provides socioeconomic development, creates job opportunities

The Cooperative Department works to promote socioeconomic status and create job opportunities for the public by laying down effective vision, mission, policies, procedures and nine action plans, said Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe during the ceremony to mark the International Day of Cooperatives yesterday.
The Union Minister added that a total of 38,709 co-operative societies were formed to date and the ministry also supported in agriculture, livestock and manageable scale manufacturing businesses to increase individual income and also to promote the income and social status of rural people under the guidance of the government.
This 1st July marks the 101st International Day of Cooperatives and this year’s theme is “Cooperatives: Partners for accelerated sustainable development”.
Then, the Union Minister called on the department and co-operatives associations to work together in accelerating the regional development programmes as the authorities supervise to promote the image of cooperatives and international cooperatives make effort to follow the basic principles based on shared values of human dignity.
The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) was founded in London, England on 19 August 1895. Currently, more than 310 organizations from 107 countries are members of the International Cooperative Alliance. There are also more than three million cooperatives and more than 1,000 million members. The cooperatives created job opportunities for over 280 million people. — GNLM/KTZH
