Pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw Council, including Nay Pyi Taw Uppatasanti Pagoda, Dartuzaya Datpaungsu Pagoda, Hlaykhwintaung Pagoda, were bustling with people doing good deeds and donating food and snacks. Revellers participated in the water festival on the second day of the Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival yesterday.
Famous artistes and dance troupes were also seen performing dances and singing songs at the water-splashing pandals of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the Nay Pyi Taw Mayor. The pandals were crowded with people enjoying the festival and the food offered.
In addition, Thingyan lovers and water splashers were also seen happy at the Walking Thingyan Festival held in the Nay Pyi Taw Water Fountain Park. Many holidaymakers relaxed at the Hlaykhwintaung Beach Resort, Kyi Taung riverside, and Awaiya Beach Resort in Pyinmana Township. To thoroughly enjoy the water festival, relevant authorities were providing security and carrying out awareness-raising campaigns to ensure safety during recreation. A visitor at the Kyitaung riverside said, “I have come here with my family, and we will visit other places worth visiting; I would like to urge friends to visit Nay Pyi Taw during this Thingyan.”
Small makeshift tents were also built in the townships, wards, and villages in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory to splash water and donate food and snacks.
The Myanmar traditional Maha Thingyan is held to welcome a new year by pouring water to remove the dirt from the old year and prevent it from entering the new year. It is a traditional festival that people celebrate with love in the country. — Myo Sett Thit/GNLM
