Tour guides said that the destination of Gawringyi island in Pathein district, Ayeyawady region, attracted many visitors during December.
Due to transport difficulties, not many travellers came to this destination. Still, many interested local visitors from Yangon region and others came to the island during the December holidays, said tour guide Ko Kway Kar.
“People came from various areas. My clients were from Kachin State, Mogok, Shan State, Muse and Lashio,” he said.
Although not as many as before, he said the return of tourists to the island is a good thing.
“There are not as many travellers as in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, but it regained people’s interest. Due to various circumstances, there were just a few visitors in 2021 and 2022. Transport difficulties were one of them. Now, the roads have improved a little, and some people come in their private cars. As there are three-day consecutive holidays in February, people might come,” he said. — MT/ZN
