Dried shrimps, fishery products from Kyaukpyu sold online across Myanmar

Although very few people sell seafood online in Kyaukpyu Township before, sales have increased significantly since the outbreak of COVID-19, with over 15 online sellers in the township.

More and more people are selling local aquatic products and dried shrimps online in Kyaukpyu township, Rakhine State, according to the owner of Hsu Family Dried Shrimps and Seafood Distribution, which has also a page on Facebook.
“We have started this business with 50 visses of Dried shrimps since the second wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar, intending to distribute them within Rakhine State, however, foreign people also buy our dried shrimps due to its excellent quality, and we have managed to start this bigger,” said Daw Hsu Htet Aung, owner of the Hsu Family Dried Shrimps and Seafood Distribution.
In addition to the dried prawns, fish paste, dried fish and fish crackers are also distributed across the country by the cash-on-delivery system, as well as people can buy during the Facebook live sale.

Daw Zin Mar Min, a shrimp paste seller said, “It is a bit of a hassle to sell online, but I’m happy that customers call me that they like my products after they had received.”
It is reported that driedshrimps, fish paste, and dried fish are being sold not only in Rakhine State but also in big cities such as Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, PyinOoLwin, Pakokku, Magway, and that online sales are stronger than offline sales, according to those seafood traders. — Tin Htun Oo (IPRD)/GNLM
