Essential drinking water sources to be conserved in Mount Popa areas

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation said they will conserve the sources of spring water that is an essential drinking water source of watershed areas of Mount Popa, Popa region and Kyaukpadaung township.
The ministry emphasizes the greening of Popa Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary and its vicinity areas, the conservation of tropical ecosystem and biodiversity. Moreover, they will also conserve the sources of spring water that is an essential drinking water source of watershed areas of Mont Popa, Popa region and Kyaukpadaung township, according to U Hla Maung Thein, director-general of the Environmental Conservation Department.
“Mount Popa possesses six different types of forest that boast Popa langar and different species of mammal, bird, butterfly, herb and orchid, and it is a key place for ecotourism and research. Moreover, the Popa region has significant geosites, and it also arranges to establish national geopark,” he said.
It will also conduct educating programmes to ensure public participation in greening programmes and sustainability of Mount Popa region. Officials currently establish a museum to conserve the golden deer and herbal plants in the herbal park. — ASH/KTZH
