According to U Htay Hlaing, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, a photo exhibition of Shwedagon Pagoda’s images in successive eras will be displayed on 29 March at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Dagon Township, Yangon Region.
The photo exhibition will take place at Chanthagyi prayer hall on the platform of the Shwedagon Pagoda from 29 March to 7 April with more than 200 photos.
“About 210 photographs of the Shwedagon Pagoda, from the time that the camera had been innovated to the present day, will be put on display. Through photographs from the early colonial era, Myanmar dressing styles, piety, and reverence to the Buddhism could be studied through photographs. Another thing to see is how the Myanmar had preserved the Shwedagon Pagoda during the colonial days. The photos kept in the archives of the pagoda, the records of successive trustees, and the images of the Buddha presented in the local and foreign press in various eras and on the social network by the people will be displayed,” U Htay Hlaing said.
In the photo exhibition of Shwedagon Pagoda in successive eras, from the colonial era since around 1800 AD to the present day, the scenes will show religious buildings of all eras, ancient Myanmar’s pious scenes, religious devoutness through photographs. — ASH/TKO
