The 15th gold foil offering event at Maha Wizaya Pagoda in Dagon Township, Yangon Region is being undertaken and gold foil debris panning will be carried out in the first week of February.
Maha Wizaya Pagoda has been covered with scaffolding starting from 6 January. A meeting concerning gold foil debris panning was held on 15 January. The process will start in the first week of February, following the open tendering. The gold plates will be covered including the umbrella atop the pagoda, said U Soe Myint, the alternate chair of Maha Wizaya Pagoda Trustees Board.
The pagoda was built in 1980 and is located south of the Shwedagon Pagoda on Dhammarakkhita Hill. The enshrined relics were contributed by the King of Nepal.
The pagoda was built to commemorate the First All-Gana Buddhist Meeting and to perpetuate and propagate Sasana.
