Illegal timber, foodstuffs, consumer goods, car parts and vehicle confiscated

A combined team led by the Forest Department under the supervision of the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections on 2 January.
Officials nabbed a total of 5.1120 tonnes of sawn iron-wood worth K2,556,000 from a vehicle (approximately K12 million) between 0/6 and 0/7 Milepost on Hlegu-Sartalin road. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Similarly, on 3 January, an inspection team led by Myanmar Police Force made inspections and confiscated 4,428 cartons of foreign cigarettes without official documents from four vehicles (approximately K22,140,000) heading from Kyeinchaung village to Yanaungmyin village in Maungtaw township in Rakhine State. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
In addition, a total of 9.8368 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K773,974 was seized in Kyangin and Nyaungdon townships of Ayeyawady Region and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 4 January, a total of 0.5500 tonne of sawn ironwood worth K275,000 was captured in Thayet township and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 5 January, at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint, officials captured 560 pairs of sandals and 25 car tyres worth K5.3 million without official documents from two vehicles heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
Therefore, seven arrests (estimated at K43,044,974) were made on four consecutive days from 2 to 5 January, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
