Independence Day amnesty: Over 9,700 local and foreign prisoners granted pardon

The government has granted amnesty to 9,651 local prisoners and 114 foreign prisoners from Insein Prison in commemoration of the 76th Independence Day and on humanitarian grounds. Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Win Tint and Commander of Yangon Region Police Force Police Brig-Gen Myo Min Htike of Yangon Region Government delivered speeches to 2,497 inmates at the gymnasium of Insein Prison yesterday morning.
The State Administration Council Government has released 1,079 prisoners from punishment from Insein Prison for the first time, 621 detainees, including those detained under section 505-A, for the second time, 322 detainees, including those detained under section 505-A, for the third time, 668 detainees for the fourth time, 844 prisoners for the fifth time, 1,477 prisoners for the sixth time, 1,167 detainees for the seventh time, 90 prisoners for the eighth time, 160 prisoners, including foreigners, for the ninth time, 985 prisoners, including foreigners, for the tenth time, 1,400 prisoners, including foreigners, for the 11th time, and 2,497 prisoners, including foreigners, for the 12th time. The released prisoners included 2,162 male prisoners, 317 female prisoners, and 18 male foreign prisoners. The prisoners were released from Insein Prison and were sent to relevant districts in the Yangon Region by YBS bus yesterday afternoon. — MNA/MKKS
