International Literacy Day 2024 celebrated in Nay Pyi Taw

The International Literacy Day 2024 ceremony in progress in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

Teaching the people can reduce number of illiterates yearly as part of implementing the guidance given by the Head of State, said Union Minister for Education Dr Nyunt Pe at the ceremony to mark the International Literacy Day 2024 which took place at Office 13 in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
He continued that in accord with the theme of the significant day for 2024 “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace”, literacy can benefit individuals as well as their State, social, economic, politic, cultural and environmental measures of the country and the region.
The Union minister disclosed that Myanmar is implementing the formal education and non-formal education in order to reduce illiterate rate year by year.
Moreover, he added that it is necessary to manage continuous learning education and teach non-formal primary and middle school students in addition to raising reading habit and increasing their incomes through employment opportunities.
Secretary General of Myanmar UNESCO National Commision Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages Dr Kyi Shwin read the message sent by the UNESCO Director General to the 2024 International Literacy Day, and a video clip on literacy campaign of Myanmar was presented.
After the ceremony, the Union minister visited the exhibition to mark the International Literacy Day 2024.
Also present at the ceremony were Union ministers, deputy ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council member, officials of Myanmar UNESCO National Commission, teachers and students. — MNA/TTA
