Under the guidance of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, state and regional special task forces seized smuggled goods valued at K315.5 million in 12 cases over two days.
The seizure operations commenced on Friday when the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force intercepted contraband worth K228 million in Taninthayi Region.
Among the confiscated items, illegally extracted lead weighing 5,264 kilogrammes held the highest value, estimated at approximately K157 million. Additional seized goods included fishing equipment, cars, and motorcycles. The suspects face charges under mining laws, customs procedures, and export/import regulations.
Similarly, another special task force seized K1 million worth of undocumented ammonium nitrate and the associated vehicle used for transportation in Kachin State on the same day. The suspects are charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Likewise, customs authorities impounded 131 bundles of 92 per cent polyester fabric, exceeding the declared unit on the import form, and 29,900 kilogrammes of GI hollow pipes for construction purpose in 16 containers at the Asia World terminal at the Myanmar Industrial Port on Friday.
The combined value of the two commodities is estimated at more than K76 million. Suspects face charges under customs procedures. Additionally, another task force apprehended individuals involved in illegal timber activities, seizing three tonnes of teak valued at over K2 million in Bago Region on Saturday.
