Lacquerware College (Bagan) to run diploma courses in lacquerware

The Lacquerware College (Bagan), the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia, will run a one-year diploma course in lacquerware in December, according to the principal of Bagan Lacquerware College. The college is situated in Bagan, NyaungU District, Mandalay Region.
From the 1924-1925 Academic Year to the 2019-2020 Academic Year, the college turned out a total of 2,564 graduates who completed basic, advanced and diploma courses.
“A one-year diploma course in lacquerware will start in December. Any graduate can apply for the course. All those who have passed the matriculation exam can apply for a two-year diploma course. Management, information and technology will be taught in the two-year course. Students will have the right to live in hostels on campus. Those who graduated from the course will get a chance to join the third-year course at the Universities of Cooperative and Management in Thanlyin and Sagaing,” said Daw Nilar Myint, principal of the Bagan Lacquerware College.
The Lacquerware Vocational School was first established in 1924. Then, it was upgraded to an institute and a college in 1995 and 2003 respectively. — Maung Aye Chan/CT
