Lighting festival marks Thadingyut festival in Mandalay

Residents enjoying lighting festival on fullmoon of Thadingyut yesterday.

People joyfully celebrate the lighting festival to mark the full moon day event of Thadingyut (Abhidhamma Day) in Mandalay yesterday evening.
They also donated robes, flowers, water and candles dedicated to the Buddha images in Mandalay city during the event.
The visitors also practised meditation at famous pagodas including Shwekyeemyin, Kyauktawgyi, Kuthodaw and Candamuni pagodas.
People also flocked to these pagodas and enjoyed the Thadingyut lighting festival.
The food donation events, amusement programmes, and 5,000 candles lighting ceremony were also launched at eastern side of Mandalay City Wall, Yadanabon Garden on 66th street between 12th × 26th streets.
Some people also made lighting events at home across the country and paid respect to the elders to mark the Thadingyut event. — Maung Aye Chan/KZL
