Magway Region tourism flourishes with 1.7M visitors, generating K1.95B in 2023

According to U Aung Than, a member of the Regional Tourism Work Committee of Magway Region, a total of 1.7 million travellers, both domestic and foreign, visited tourist destinations in the region in 2023.
In the same year, a hotel with 28 rooms and a tourism company were opened in Magway Region. Various events and locations such as Kantha Lake, the night market on the Strand Road, the Magway Myathalun Pagoda Festival, the Mann Shwesettaw Pagoda Festival, and MSME exhibitions were designated as tourist destinations, attracting visitors from across the country.
Hotels and guesthouses accommodated a total of 105,607 visitors, generating revenue of 1,953.02 million kyats.
“Key tourist destinations include the UNESCO-recognized Beikthano old city, the ancient Minhla fort, which played a crucial role in the English-Myanmar war, Kwaychaung fort, Mann Shwesettaw natural tourism sites, and the Myathalun Pagoda. Additionally, authorities are overseeing the construction project of Daungthay Botanical Garden to attract local and international tourists,” said U Aung Than.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, along with related departments, experts, scholars from the tourism industry, and private business owners, are collaborating to promote the development of the tourism industry in Magway Region. — ASH/TMT
