The Malaria GFATM Country Dialogue (Myanmar) workshop is in progress in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The Malaria GFATM Country Dialogue (Myanmar) Workshop for RAI4E funding proposal for malaria prevention and control activities to be carried out from 2024 to 2026 with the support of global funds was held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Health office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
The workshop specifically aims to achieve the goal of eliminating malaria by the year 2030.
Deputy Minister for Health Prof Dr Aye Tun said that the death rate due to malaria in Myanmar decreased significantly between 2012 and 2020 but the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 had an impact on the prevention of malaria.
As the incidence of the disease increased in border areas that are difficult to reach, more efforts must be made to be free from malaria, he added.
Myanmar is working towards the elimination of falciparum malaria by 2025 and the total elimination of malaria by 2030.
The Public Health Department submitted a proposal for continued funding from the World Fund, and officials from the World Health Organization and the Malaria Control Project are in joint discussions and will soon be able to send it to the Global Fund.
National Malaria Control Project Manager Deputy Director Dr Nay Yi Yi Lin also discussed the strategy and priority processes to be implemented for the control of malaria in Myanmar.
Officials from the Global Fund also discussed the steps and procedures involved in applying for funding.
A representative from malaria partner organizations explained the points that need to be prioritized to control malaria.
Directors-general of the Ministry of Health, the deputy permanent secretary, deputy directors-general and officers of Tatmadaw Medical Corps, Anti-Malaria Project officials from regional and state Public Health Departments, and officials from World Health Organization (Myanmar), the Global Fund and partner organizations attended the workshop. — MNA/KZL
