Massive seizure of 1.45 tonnes of methamphetamine in Myanmar waters by Tatmadaw (Navy)

A total of 1.45 tonnes of Ice (methamphetamine), valued at K36.25 billion, was seized in Myanmar’s waters by the Tatmadaw (Navy), as reported by the Myanmar Police Force.
The Tatmadaw (Navy) conducted a search on a Yanlinkyaw-4 wooden motorboat in the sea, approximately 135 miles southeast of Hainggyikyun town in Ayeyawady Region, at 3:30 pm on 4 January. Aung Thein (aka) Watoke, Tu Naing, Maung Zaw, and Phoe Lapyae were apprehended by Tatmadaw (Navy), along with the confiscated 1.45 tonnes of Ice (methamphetamine) valued at K36.25 billion.
After some interrogation, authorities arrested Soe Kyaw (aka) Soe Soe Kyaw at the inshore Tadato jetty in Kawthoung township at 11:30 pm on 7 January. The offenders admitted that the seized drugs were intended to be transported from the sea, approximately 135 miles southeast from Hainggyikyun town, to the waters in Kawthoung township and subsequently overseas. Legal action has been taken against the offenders, and an ongoing investigation aims to apprehend other perpetrators involved in the case. — MNA/MKKS
