The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced the opening of the Waste Recycling Laboratory for Mekong-Lancang Region at Mandalay Technological University in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay.
Established with the Mekong-Lancang Regional Countries Research Cooperation Fund, the laboratory commenced operations on 11 March. It aims to develop technologies to address waste management and environmental sustainability issues across the Mekong-Lancang region.
With the increasing adoption of electric vehicle technologies, the laboratory will focus on research into waste management, specifically the production and recycling of electric vehicle batteries from waste materials. This initiative aims to serve as a model for other universities. Furthermore, collaboration and exchange of information on scientific innovations related to waste recycling management are expected to mitigate not only environmental impact but also foster regional economic and social development. — TWA/KZL
