The final Group A match of the XXXII SEA Games Men’s Football Event continued yesterday in Phom Penh, where the Myanmar team beat Cambodia 1-0 and advanced to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Indonesia won over Cambodia by 2-1 in the other match of the same group.
Thanks to the goal scored by Thet Hein Soe in the second half, team Myanmar secured the semifinal spot.
Since the Myanmar team needed a win to enter the semifinal, they played an opening attack from the start, but the Philippines played tough, without any defensive mistakes, thus team Myanmar struggled to produce a goal.
The Myanmar squad, which did not score in the first half, increased their attack in the second half and scored the only winning goal in the 55 minutes.
Hein Htet Aung kicked the foul ball at the top of the penalty area and bounced off the bar but Thet Hein Soe closed the shot.
In the 82-minute mark, Myanmar defender Lat Wai Bhone was sent off with a red card, but they played with one less player to maintain the winning result.
After the group (A) matches, the Indonesian team won all four games and took first place in the group with 12 points, while the Myanmar team finished second with three wins and one loss, garnering nine points and entering the semi-finals.
Cambodia, which earned four points, Timor, which garnered three points, and the Philippines, which collected one point, were eliminated from the group. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
