The second meeting of the Working Group of the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum-SEANF was held in a hybrid format by the Thailand National Human Rights Commission, the alternate chair, on 19 and 20 July in Bangkok.
The representatives of the human rights commissions from member countries – Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste – attended the forum in person, while representatives from the Indonesia National Human Rights Commission and the Chairman, the Vice-Chairman and members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission joined the forum via videoconferencing.
The meeting discussed the undertakings and progress of the SEANF after the first meeting of the working group, the implementation of five priority tasks included in the SEANF strategy (2022-2026) and the cooperation between ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and SEANF, and the cooperation with World Justice Project (WJP).
At the meeting, commission member Dr Than Myint discussed the activities and achievements of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission regarding the protection and enhancement of human rights after the first working group meeting of the forum.
The working group meeting reached an initial agreement for holding the 20th annual meeting of the forum and related meetings in November 2023. — MNA/KZT
