Mine explosion damages railway in Kyaukdaga Township

Around noon on 13 March, an explosion occurred on the railway between Tawkywein Station and Kanyutkwin Station in Kyaukdaga Township, Bago Region.
Local officials and members of the security forces, including Myanmar Railways employees, promptly inspected the area affected by the explosion. They discovered damage to the under-construction railway, including a 10-foot rail-tract and concrete sleepers that were broken.
It is evident that these destructive acts were carried out to disrupt passenger and goods transport. Efforts are underway to repair the damaged rail section.
Since 1 February 2021, various terrorist groups have planted mines near railway areas and stations 130 times, exploded railway bridges 50 times, and set fire to stations and employee housing 12 times.
The government is actively working to improve railway infrastructure and upgrade the rail transport system to enhance public travel and freight transport. However, terrorists persist in their destructive acts, endangering lives, instilling fear among travellers, and hindering railway upgrade efforts.
