MoSWRR discusses Rakhine state development projects implemented under MoU between Myanmar and India

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a coordination meeting to discuss the Rakhine State development projects implemented under the MoU between the Myanmar and Indian governments.
At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said that under the MoU signed between Myanmar and India in 2017 to carry out development work in Rakhine State, India would provide US$25 million for five years at a rate of US $ 5 million per year. The project of the first year implemented 250 houses in Maungtaw Township with US$3.8 million under the plan of the Government of India in the 2018-2019FY.
She said the meeting was to discuss the 13 projects proposed for the second-year project coordinated and agreed with the government of India to be implemented by the relevant ministries and the state government as soon as possible and to coordinate the 17 proposed projects for the third time.
She called for discussion on the difficulties encountered as the work can be completed within the stipulated time by necessary coordination by knowing the status of the implementation of India’s assistance on a monthly or quarterly basis.
As the Ministry has signed the MoU on behalf of the State, it has the main responsibility to implement the MoU, she said, by adding that she believes that the people who will enjoy benefit of the projects will be able to benefit quickly from the speedy implementation of the projects.
Afterwards, the Rakhine State chief minister and the deputy minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement discussed each sector.
The coordination meeting was attended by the director-generals of the departments implementing the project, the deputy directors-general and subject officials, and Rakhine State government officials led by the chief minister. Officials from the state-level departments implementing on the ground attended the meeting online to discuss the implementation of the respective projects, and the Union minister and the Rakhine State chief minister coordinated as necessary. — MNA
