Myanmar, China deliberate on transporting sacred Buddha Tooth Relic to Myanmar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Myanmar and China discussed the fifth conveyance of the sacred Buddha tooth relic from the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Chinese Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi held discussions on this matter during the 8th Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Beijing on 6 December.
In their conversation, both officials agreed to extend an invitation for the Buddha tooth relic from China to be brought to Myanmar at a suitable time. This gesture aims to enhance mutual trust, understanding, and friendship between the two countries. Myanmar had previously conveyed the Buddha tooth relic from China on four occasions — in 1955, 1994, 1996, and 2011.
The relic was displayed at the Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill for eight months during its first sacred invite to Yangon. The second invitation was transferred to various locations for one and a half months, including Yangon, Nyaunglebin, Toungoo, Pyinmana, Meiktila, and Mandalay. The third sacred invite involved transporting the relic to Yangon and Mandalay for nearly three months. The fourth sacred conveyance of the relic covered Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay. — ASH/ TMT
