The virtual conference was also participated by ministers responsible for information from ASEAN countries, high ranking officials and officials of the Secretariat of ASEAN.

The theme of the 15th AMRI, 18th High-Ranking Officials responsible for information from ASEAN countries, and related meetings is “ASEAN: A Digital Community with Accessibility for All”.

The 15th AMRI endorsed the Framework for Developing Digital Readiness among ASEAN Citizens, the Framework for Promoting Accessibility for All in ASEAN Digital Broadcasting, and the Joint Media Statement for the 15th AMRI and Related Meetings.

The AMRI meeting is held every two years since 1989, and Myanmar hosted the 12th AMRI in Nay Pyi Taw in 2014 and 13th SOMRI in Ngwesaung, Ayeyawady Region.

The meetings are aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and trust.

The AMRI meetings focus on projects related to the information sector in ASEAN countries, review current projects, plan future tasks, review the high-ranking officials’ reports by the ASEAN ministers responsible for information and giving suggestions and approvals by the ministers.
Senior Officials’ Meeting-SOMRI and SOMRI+3 meeting are held for two days and ASEAN Minister Responsible for Information-AMRI and AMRI+3 are held for one day after the senior officials’ meeting.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the 15th AMRI became the first-ever virtual conference of AMRI.

The 16th AMRI will be hosted by Viet Nam in 2023.—MNA
