Myanmar delegation attends AMMDM and related meetings

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win is attending the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) and related meetings in Ha Long, Viet Nam from 9 to 13 October.
The Union minister emphasized the implementation of Anticipatory Action in line with the country’s geographical conditions and procedures the country practises, lesser causalities of Cyclone Mocha than that of 2008 Cyclone Nargis due to an improved disaster management system before Mocha’s landfall on 14 May 2023, the dissemination of storm information and preparedness, release of real-time warnings, provision of necessary foods, fuels, construction materials to disaster high-risk areas, evacuation of the people in advance and ensuring the relevant work committees strictly follow the procedures for any possible disaster through participation of relevant organizations and people.
Union Minister Dr Soe Win expressed words of thanks to ASEAN and other nations for their assistance in the country’s efforts to resettle and restore the Mocha-affected areas.
The senior officials of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement also attended the 43rd Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) and related meetings to discuss opportunities to collaborate with ASEAN countries in responding to natural disasters. — MNA/TH
