Myanmar exported a total of 1,319.02 tonnes of honey in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (April-October), according to the data released by Apiculture Division under the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
An estimated value of over US$1.978 million was earned from exporting honey via both maritime trade and border trade routes.
The country’s private sector expanded its honey market into the global marketplace by shipping mainly to Japan, Thailand and South Korea.
Myanmar produces sesame honey, jujube honey, niger honey, sunflower honey, lychee honey and flower honey.
Market prices for the honey produced by Myanmar in the global marketplace are ranging from $ 2,500 to 3000 per tonne. The country exports approximately 3,000 tonnes of honey annually.
There are 31 state-owned beekeeping stations in 31 townships across the country. Relevant authorities are assisting the private sector of beekeeping businesses with advanced technologies and delivering pure pedigrees to have it developed.
