Myanmar joins 29th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting, related meetings

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo takes part in 29th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting and related meetings on 9 and 10 November.

A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo attended the 29th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting and related meetings, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The meetings were held on 9 and 10 November in Luang Prabang, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The Deputy Prime Minister attended the opening ceremony of the 29th ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting held on the morning of 9 November, along with ministers from ASEAN member countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister discussed issues regarding the cooperation process of the ASEAN transport sector, the process to be carried out in 2024 and the ASEAN Air, issues related to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the ASEAN Expressway Network and the formulation of policies that should be adopted for the development of the infrastructure of electric vehicles and the increased use of technology in ports.
In addition, he attended the 22nd ASEAN-China Transport Ministers’ Meeting and discussed the implementation of the ASEAN-China Cooperation Roadmap process and to further increase cooperation in maritime transport sector safety and security.
Similarly, the 21st ASEAN-Japan Transport Ministers Meeting was held online at the 50th ASEAN-Japan Partnership Relations Establishment Ceremony and the 20th ASEAN-Japan Transport Cooperation Commemoration Ceremony.
In addition, he attended the 14th ASEAN-Korea Transport Ministers’ Meeting and discussed issues related to the signing of the ASEAN-Korea Aviation Agreement.
In the afternoon, he joined the interim meeting of the ASEAN Ministers of Transport and Tourism held online and discussed matters related to the formation of a working group consisting of representatives from both sectors to promote ASEAN tourism.
In the evening, he attended the Myanmar-Laos transport minister level meeting and discussed the draft memorandum on cross-border transportation between the two countries, issues of cooperation in the improvement of the Mekong River channel, and potential bilateral cooperation issues. The Union minister returned to Yangon by flight yesterday evening. — ASH/KZL
