Myanmar joins 59th Annual Session of Asian – African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO)

The Government of the People’s Republic of China hosted the 59th Annual Session of Asian – African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) via videoconferencing starting yesterday.
A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo joined the session together with other delegates of member countries.
During the opening ceremony, Chinese Premier Mr Li Keqiang made an opening speech. Then, Union minister and Attorney-General of the Union expressed words of thanks to China for holding the meeting despite the outbreak of COVID-19 and inviting to the session.
She also said that the Asian-African-Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) was established in 1955 as the outcome of the Bandung Conference. Myanmar is one of the countries that form the organization and also participates in annual meetings yearly. Holding the meeting via videoconferencing shows the unity between Asia-Africa countries and it is such a proud for publishing AALCO journal called “International Law and Global Pandemics.”
The AALCO plays a key role for Asian-African countries and provides necessary things to develop the international law for other organizations such as the UN and Myanmar is proud of participating in the processes of the International Law Commission (ILC) of AALCO.
International law is the foundation for development in the fields of equality in international relations and international cooperation. During the outbreak of COVID-19, the countries should follow international law despite many challenges. The member countries also need to cooperate in resolving the challenges in economic, social and political issues during and beyond COVID-19 era. International cooperation is also absolutely essential as only one country cannot fight against transnational cybercrimes. Regarding such crimes, Myanmar drafts cyber security law accordingly to international norms.
Finally, the delegates of member countries exchanged views on processes of the International Law Commission, international law on cyber and international law related matters.— MNA
