Myanmar ranks eighth among the top 10 rice exporters in the world in 2023-2024FY, according to Seasia Stats.
The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) exports 2.1 million tonnes of rice every year, earning nearly US$800 million. Although the rice export volume declined this FY, the income did not fall as the rice prices were still high in foreign countries. The country receives $574 million from rice and broken rice exports within ten months of this FY, according to MRF.
The rice export volume will be reduced to stabilize the local rice market this FY. The country will export only more than one million tonnes of rice this year instead of 2.1 million tonnes. Therefore, the government will earn $700 million, according to MRF.
The country exported 2.4 million tonnes of rice in the 2022-2023 financial year and clinched fifth among the world’s largest rice exporters. — Pwint Thitsa/KTZH
