The officials from the two countries negotiated matters regarding trade promotion on the Thailand-Myanmar border and permit on Myanmar cargo trucks on the Mae Sot side on 6 September.
Private businesspersons called for critical reflection on the previously enforced laws to the Tak provincial authorities in order to export the goods to Mae Sot and import Tak Province’s products (coffee and vegetables) into Myanmar with six-wheel trucks from Myanmar.
Additionally, they requested entry permits for Myanmar citizens holding e-Visa and Visa on Arrivals through Mae Sot airport and No.2 Myawady-Mae Sot friendship bridge at the meeting.
The cross-border trade between Myanmar and Thailand grew 1.4 per cent in 2022 compared with the last year. The border trade data has indicated 107.41 per cent of growth in the Thailand-Myanmar border trade till July 2022 since early 2022. Nonetheless, inflation drives the trade down by 0.16 per cent at present, according to the meeting report. — TWA/GNLM
