Myanmar U-24 Football Team receives cash awards in recognition of advancing to second stage at XIX Asian Games

The State Administration Council has awarded US$5,000 to the Myanmar U-24 men’s football team in its honour and owners of football clubs from the Myanmar National League, K50 million, for an excellent performance of the team advancing to the second stage of 16 teams from the best third position of the group in the men’s football tournament of the XIX Asian Games. This year’s Asian Games is being hosted by China in Hangzhou from 23 September to 8 October.
Myanmar fell into Group A together with host China, India and Bangladesh. After the group matches, Myanmar sailed into the second stage of the tournament from the best third position of the group with four points in one win, one draw and one loss.
In the records of the Asian Games, Myanmar claimed champions twice and secured the third prize once. Since 1974, Myanmar has not been able to step up next stage of the group matches. Recently, the team Myanmar showed off its skills again competing in this year’s games with advancing to the last 16. According to the fixture, the Myanmar U-24 team will face the Asian powerhouse Japanese team in the second stage match on 28 September. — KNL/TTA
