Myanmar’s traditional woven textiles have gained in popularity in the local market, and sales have been normal, according to sources from the weaving cottonwear industry.
“Weaving products have gained domestic interest. There are orders from Myanmar in Thailand. Sale of some items has increased,” said a weaving cottonwear trader.
The majority of weaving workshops have been found in Myitkyina, Shwebo, Mandalay and Kanbalu, and from these places, a wide variety of woven textiles such as male and female Sarongs, Myanmar cotton wears, Anyarsaung (blanket) and Kachin longyi are distributed.
He said a market for woven wear in Yangon can also attract foreigners.
“Foreigners call Myanmar’s woven textiles handmade. They value and use them in making decorations for their houses. For example, they use tablecloths and scarves in decorating their living rooms,” he added. — MT/ZS
