The northern shoveler, a wetland bird species was recorded migrating to the Hlawga Park which is located in Yangon Region for the first time in this month, said an official from the park.
Unlike other wetland birds, it has bold big-sized shovel-shaped bill and came to migrate at camping ground lake of the park on 23 December for the first time.
“Migration of mandarin bird last January is a new record. This is another species migrated along with mandarin bird now. There was no record of northern shoveler for Hlawga Park. It came to migrate at the park this year for the first time. So this is new record for this year,” said the park’s official.
The migrated northern shoveler was found in the same flock of spot billed ducks which is mandarin duck species and recorded in last winter.
On 17 December, a migratory bird mandarin duck which has colourful feathers and sail fins on its back, rarely seen in Myanmar, came for winter migration.
“The bird attracts bird watchers and they come to take picture of it because it is different from other ducks,” said the official.
In addition to northern shoveler and mandarin duck, other beautiful and attractive migratory birds have arrived at the Hlawga Park and the public is invited to come to watch them.
