Phyo Zeyar Thaw’s weapons/ammunition support to commit terrorist acts in Yangon recovered

A press release was issued on 20 November regarding the arrest of 50 terrorists, including NLD member Maung Kyaw (a) Phyo Zeyar Thaw who committed acts of violence in Yangon Region under the guidance of NUG terrorist organization. Security forces found and confiscated various types of firearms, homemade bombs, grenades, rounds of ammunition, stimulant tablets, explosive materials and related equipment used in violence during the arrest of the terrorists.
Defendant Maung Kyaw (a) Phyo Zeyar Thaw was born on 26 March 1981 in Yangon. He got his bachelor degree in English from Yadanabon University in 2003 and worked as an artist (singer). He was sentenced to six years in prison for forming an illegal association and holding illegal money but was released on government pardon in 2011. He joined the NLD party in 2012 and in the by-election, he contested as the Pyithu Hluttaw representative for Zabuthiri Township from the NLD and won. He served as a confidant of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and was closely involved in her domestic and international travels and in campaign.
He did not contest as a Hluttaw representative in the 2020 General Election and he has been leading violent protests in Yangon since February 2021. Since April, he has connected with Yi Mon, Zaw Wai Soe, Lwin Ko Latt from the NUG and acted as the in-charge of Yangon Region. He established Special Task Force-STF and People Defence Force-PDF and carried out terrorist acts.
According to his statement, he issued weapons and ammunition to the assassins based on the mission report on the acts of violence to be carried out in public areas, administration buildings, commerce and school buildings in order to intimidate the public, civil service personnel, township/ward/village administrators. According to his statement, there were 15 cases of killings with the use of weapons and ammunition issued by him.
A pistol was issued to Ko Gyi, a member of STF to kill U Myo Lwin on 18 May 2021. U Myo Lwin, the ward administrator of the ward (3), Lanmadaw Township, was shot to his head by a group of people while he was on the way to inspect two homemade bomb explosions that happed at the ward administration office.
On 19 May, two pistols were issued to Lin Paing, a member of STF, to attack the Sangyoung Township Administration Office. On 21 May, two terrorists attacked the office with firearms and grenades and some members of the security forces were wounded.

One pistol was issued to Kyaw Thiha, a PDF member, to kill one innocent civilian in Thakayta Township on 19 May. Two men shot an innocent civilian in front of his home at No 23, (20)th Manpyay road, 3 Manpyay ward, Thakayta Township.
On 25 May, one pistol was issued to Sky, STF member, to kill U Aung Min, an innocent man in the ward (3), Mayangon Township, and he was shot from a taxi in front of the MCC hall on 1 June.

On 3 June, one pistol was issued to two PDF members to kill Dawbon Township ward Administrator U Tun Yee, and he was shot in his car on his way to Thanlyin from Dawbon Township by three terrorists.
One pistol was issued to STF member Kywat to attack security forces in Manpyay (3) ward, Thakayta Township on 4 June. Four armed terrorists attacked security forces from a white vehicle on 7 June and some members of the security forces were wounded.
STF member Htoo Htoo was given a pistol to rob “Hla Thida” gold shop in Bayintdaung (2) ward, Mayangon Township on 11 July. Suspect Wai Yan (a) Athaylay was arrested with 1 Glock pistol, 1 magazine, 8 rounds of ammunition.
In the last week of July, one PDF member was given a pistol to kill an innocent civilian in ward 35, Dagon Myothit (North). On 5 August, two terrorists attacked

the Mahar Myaing Tea Shop at No 50, Tapinshwehtee road, ward 35, Dagon Myothit (North) with small firearms and grenades, and some innocent civilians were wounded.
One PDF member was given a pistol to kill a member of the ward administration office of ward 57, Dagon Myothit (South) on 17 August. One civilian was wounded when four armed terrorists wearing raincoats attacked with small firearms.
In the third week of August, two pistols were issued to a member of STF to shoot the security guard at Bayintnaung bridge in Hlinethaya Township. On 22 August, some of the security guards were wounded when being attacked from a vehicle.

On 9 September, small firearms were issued to a member of the Revolution Force to shoot security forces patrolling Sangyoung Township on 9 September. Terrorists attacked the security forces by throwing a grenade in the back seat of the vehicle and firing at them in Thantadar ward in Sangyoung Township. A total of 18 terrorists — 16 males and 2 females — were arrested with weapons and ammunition.

In the second week of October, STF member S-21 was given small firearms to shoot traffic control police in the corner of Bargayar road and Lower Kyimyindine road. On 23 October, security guards at the traffic control room were attacked by small firearms from a vehicle. some of the security guards were wounded and four perpetrators were arrested with weapons and ammunition.

On 23 October, four pistols were issued to two STF members to attack traffic control police near the Botahtaung market road. Some of the security forces were wounded when four terrorists attacked with small firearms.

In the third week of October, 2 M-79 bomb launchers and 7 grenades were issued to UG member 44-ST. On 27 October, terrorists attacked the Dawbon police station and Hline police station on 31 October with the launcher. A total of 13 perpetrators (11 men and 2 women) were arrested with 6 FGC-9 guns, 1 pistol, 12 rounds of 9-MM ammunition, 5 rounds of .45 ammunition, 20 rounds of .38 ammunition, 8 FGC-9 magazines, 1 pistol magazine and 2 homemade bombs.
On 4 November, a pistol was lent to a YFA member to kill Mytel GM U Thein Aung. Four perpetrators were arrested.

Due to the cooperation of the security forces and dutiful citizens, 39 terrorists (34 men and 5 women) were arrested with 21 small firearms, 50 magazines, 1,465 rounds of ammunition, 12 40-MM bombs, 4 grenades, 32 homemade bombs, 5 smoke bombs, 4 mines, 7 bags of gunpowder, 1 binoculars and 1 drone. Efforts are being made to arrest the rest of the terrorists as soon as possible.
