From 1 April to 31 December 2023, prawn exports generated US$32 million, leading the chart among marine exports, according to the Fisheries Department (Nay Pyi Taw).
Myanmar exports marine products to more than 40 countries, including Japan, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and nations in the Middle East and Europe. The department is working together with the Myanmar Fisheries Federation to boost exports.
Director U Nyunt Win of the department said, “Between 1 April and 31 December last year, our country exported 8,432 tonnes of prawn, earning $32 million. About 7,731 tonnes were shipped via the sea lane, with the remaining quantity passing through border gates.”
The department collaborates closely with exporters to fulfil the specific demands of each country. Additionally, they prioritize ensuring that the exported products comply with stringent regulations, particularly those related to virus prevention, such as COVID-19, to meet the standards set by countries with strict health measures like China. — ASH/NT
