Price of new Pakokku green gram plunges

In the Yangon beans and pulses market, the price of new green grams dropped from K3,080 to K3,250 per viss in the second week of October from K2,830 to K2,920 per viss on 27 October. The price per viss has decreased by K250, and the current price of a tonne of green gram is approximately K1,700,000. Compared to the previous price, the cost has fallen by K140,000 per tonne.
In the market, the price of a tonne of black gram RC was K2,918,000, that of pigeon peas (red gram) was valued at K4,075,000, and chickpeas were priced at K5,800 to K6,100 per viss. Consequently, the price of green grams is the lowest among them. While the price of Pakokku green gram has declined, the price of green gram (Kayan Shwewah variety) remains unchanged at K3,630 per viss.
During the first five months of the 2023–2024 financial year, 720,900 tonnes of pulses worth US$586 million were exported. The exports included 279,300 tonnes of black grams valued at $214 million and 222,600 tonnes of green grams valued at $149 million.
On 27 October 2023, the price of a tonne of exported beans was reported to be $1,045 to $1,065 for black gram RC, $1,350 to $1,370 for pigeon peas (red gram), and $750 to $770 for regional green grams. — TWA/CT
