According to the Rural Development Department, the small-scale power supply system is under implementation to provide electricity to villages that cannot get access to electricity from the national grid within 10 to 15 years as they are more than ten miles away from it.
Under the small-scale electric power supply system, villages seeking electricity are required to cover 20 per cent of the cost, while the winning company of the tender contributes another 20 per cent, with the government funding the remaining 60 per cent.
It has been disclosed that a budget of 20 billion kyats will be allocated for electrifying 900 villages nationwide during the upcoming 2024-2025 financial year. — TWA/TKO
