SAC Chairman PM Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects upgrades for airports in Rakhine State

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning inspected plans to upgrade airports in Rakhine State.
At the lounge of Sittway Airport, the Senior General heard reports on brief histories of Sittway, Kyaukpyu and Thandwe airports, data on the airports, landing of aircraft, necessary machinery, installation of aviation communication devices and security devices, plans to expansion of the runways and airports and accomplishment for the guidance of the Senior General on his trips to the airports by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and officials.
After hearing the reports, the Senior General said that expansion of airports and upgrading works need to be systematically undertaken with the future plans. Upgrading tasks must meet the set standards. Aprons must be built systematically. As Kyaukpyu deep sea port will have port industries in the future with the high volume of trade, arrivals of foreign travellers will be on the rise. As cargo planes will land there, it is necessary to set future plans for expanding the runways.
The Senior General stressed the need to expand the runways and upgrade Sittway Airport on priority for admitting A-320 and B-737 aircraft. Likewise, it is necessary to upgrade Thandwe airport to admit the landing of Jets.
The Senior General viewed situations to upgrade Sittway Airport and gave necessary guidance and then inspected Sittway station in a motorcade. — MNA/TTA
