SEA Games Men’s Football: Myanmar team says goodbye to Group A

The last day of the 31st SEA Games Men’s Football Tournament Group A was held on 15 May and Myanmar team lost and was disqualified to reach the semifinal. Myanmar lost 3-1 to Indonesia in their last group match.
Myanmar team’s loss was due to conceding two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match and poor defensive moves.
Team Myanmar had reached the semi-finals three times in a row in the previous SEA Games in 2015, 2017, and 2019 but is now content with the group stage.
Myanmar could not control the Indonesian attack from the beginning of the match and gave a series of chances. Egy Maulana scored the ice breaker for Indonesia in the 6th minute-mark and Witan Sulaeman, the second goal in the 9th minute-mark. In the 15th minute, Maung Maung Lwin was substituted for Ye Lin Htet and after that, the Myanmar team’s attacking style improved and the scoring chances were restored. However, Masalini scored the third goal for Indonesia near the end of the first half. In the second half, Win Naing Tun scored a goal in the 66th minute for team Myanmar.
After that, Myanmar team tried to score more but failed to make equalizers and ended by 1-3 at the final whistle. Host Viet Nam won the group with ten points of three wins and one draw while Indonesia earned the second place of the group with nine points from three wins and one loss.—Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
