Shan United and Yangon United book tickets to AFC Cup

Shan United, who won the 2022 MNL Championship, and Yangon United, who won the second prize, will be allowed to compete in the AFC Cup next season, 2023-2024.
Starting next season, Myanmar clubs will only be allowed to compete in the AFC Cup among the club competitions organized by the Asian Football Confederation. The domestic league champion will be allowed to compete directly from the group stage, while the runner-up or the knockout champion will have to start from the qualifying stage.
Therefore, the Myanmar National League champion Shan United will be allowed to compete directly from the group stage, while the runner-up Yangon team will have to start from the qualifiers. Starting next season, the Asian Football Confederation will hold the Asian-level club competitions from August to May, similar to the European Football Confederation (UEFA), and the 2023-2024 AFC Cup, which will be held from August 2023 to May 2024.
The Shan United team has the opportunity to compete in the AFC Cup for the fourth time, while the Yangon team has the opportunity to compete for the eighth time.
Shan United started competing in the AFC Cup in 2018, 2019, and 2020 and the team was allowed to compete again in the 2023-2024 competition but withdrew in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Meanwhile, Yangon United was allowed to compete in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020 seasons.
The Shan United team has won four times in the last five seasons in the domestic league competition and has achieved consecutive successes. Next season, Shan United will make many pre-season preparations to achieve victory in the Asian-level club competition. — Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
