According to mushroom farmer U Tun Lwin Oo from Yin Mar Hlaing Ward, straw mushroom cultivation increases locals’ incomes in Phaungpyin Township of the Sagaing Region.
The people themselves grow mushrooms and sell them at K500 per bundle. The price of mushroom is between K4,500 and K5,000 per viss. Moreover, three frames with 8 feet in length and 3 feet in width produce between four visses and six visses a day, and so mushroom farmers can get about K20,000 per day, he said.
“We can grow mushrooms on about 20 feet by 20 feet land. The cost is low, and it can make profits easily, so it is the most appropriate crop to grow to cover the family expenses. We can plug mushrooms within 12 days, and that’s why we can earn much with low production costs just in a short while,” he added.
It can cost about K7,000 to grow mushrooms in an eight-foot and three-foot frame. The used materials in planting mushrooms can be recycled as fertilizers for other crops. The tropical and humid climate is the best one for growing mushrooms. — Ko Htun (Phaungpyin)/GNLM
