Shwedagon Pagoda witnesses surge in pilgrimage visitors

According to the pagoda trustee board, over 800,000 domestic and foreign pilgrims visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in March.
Pilgrimage numbers to the Shwedagon Pagoda have been notably higher on weekends and public holidays, with approximately 150 foreign pilgrims daily. Among them are visitors from America, Europe, and Africa, with the majority coming from China, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
The pagoda extended its opening hours for pilgrims from 5 am to 9 pm, effective from 1 January 2024, to facilitate peaceful paying of respects. — TWA/TKO
