The visiting hour to the Shwedagon Pagoda, which was originally set from 5 am to 8 pm, will be extended from 5 am to 9 pm starting from 1 January 2024 for the large number of pilgrims, according to the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.
“Since the number of devotees worldwide is gradually increasing, the visiting time will be extended from 8 pm to 9 pm. There are not only almost 20,000 devotees daily but also about 40,000-50,000 pilgrims on weekends. From January to November 2023, there were over 1.2 million pilgrims. A total of 280 CCTV cameras have been installed at Shwedagon Pagoda,” said U Bo Thin who is a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.
