Monsoon is a season in which many kinds of natural disasters may fall in Myanmar because the country is teeming with various sizes of water sources such as rivers, creeks, lakes and ponds.
Disaster prone countries need to make preparations for preventive measures and preparedness to encounter the natural disasters and consequences. As Myanmar takes a position with long coastal areas close to the Andaman Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Gulf of Mottama, natural disasters based on water and wind may enter the country’s territory easily.
Hence, it is necessary to take disaster preventive measures, hold rehearsals in the disasters with participation of local people and carry out preparedness for rescue and searching in the events. Generally, Myanmar faces the monsoon-related disasters such as flesh flood, landslides, bank erosion, heavy rain, storm, overflow of rivers and creeks, inundation, etc.
Service personnel from the relevant departments and organizations should join hands with volunteers in conducting the rescue and searching for victims of natural disasters and carry out relief and rehabilitation processes. To do so, they perform their tasks at risk of their lives. Their families wait for them to return home safely. Whenever disasters hit, the authorities need to manage for rescue and search for the victims with least casualty.
These disasters bring negative impacts to the society such as damage of crop plantations, food and shelter problems of the people, collapses of buildings and bridges, loss of property, death of people and farming cattle and falls of trees. No event benefits the society. If so, how do we overcome such challenges?
The rescue and searching teams should be formed before the monsoon. Not to be concerned about basic needs of their families, the participants from the rescue and searching teams should be provided necessary aid. They should be camped with necessary facilities to be funded by the State the whole monsoon season for standing by to defy the natural disasters.
In fact, the voluntary task to rescue and search for the lives and losses in the natural disasters can be said as meritorious deeds designed to protect lives of the people in such bitter experiences. Hence, those volunteers and rescuers are deserved to honour as ideals of the society.
