Strengthening national quality infrastructure, certification body launched

The project to strengthen national quality infrastructure and certification on body underway yesterday.

The Project on Strengthening National Quality Infrastructure and Implementation of National Certification Body for Certifying Products, Processes, and Services, along with the Stakeholders Engagement Forum on Standards and Quality for Trade Facilitation and Industry Development, was formulated and led by the Department of Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2023). The event took place yesterday at Mercure Hotel in Yangon.
The event was attended by Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, the Yangon Region chief minister, ministers, members of the National Skills Standard Council, members of the Technical Subcommittee on Drafting Standards, representatives from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, as well as other associated organizations, and representatives of quality recommendation bodies from both public and private sectors.
During the event, speeches were delivered by Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar Ms Qiao Li, and Strategic Studies and Deputy Director-General of Training Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Swa.
Currently, the implementation of strengthening the national quality infrastructure, products, and national quality recommendations for manufacturing practices and services is underway as part of this project. Additionally, standard operating procedures, rules, regulations, and directives are being developed, with the approval of the National Skills Standard Council, for the registration and designation processes for quality control bodies, laboratories, and quality scrutinizing laboratories and bodies, according to the report.
In the Stakeholders Engagement Forum, discussions focused on collaborating with stakeholders to establish the required procedures and quality control and scrutinizing processes domestically. – MNA/ TMT
